First days of ......
We have had some 'firsts' lately: first day of dance class for the girls, first day of preschool for Ainslie and Finn, first day of soccer for Ainslie, first pumpkin pictures, etc.
Ainslie began playing YMCA soccer this fall. She has only had one practice, second one is tomorrow with a match on Saturday. Texas finally saw some rain and so her first game actually rained out. She is on Team Ladybugs, the purple team (her favorite color). She loves it and it excited to be playing. Let's hope it will cool down a little so the girls on her team don't get heat stroke (seriously!)
Mais and Ains also started dance through our local lodge. It's very informal, no competitions and low key. They love dressing up and have already learned quite a lot. They get so excited putting on the dance clothes and shoes, and I have to admit, I'm living a little vicariously through them as I never danced.
Ainslie and Finn are enjoying preschool. Ainslie loves her classroom and enjoys playing in there so much that she gets bummed when they have to leave to go to art or music or Bible. Of course she bounces back, but she really loves her classroom and teacher. She is learning an awful lot of cool things and she keeps me on my toes with her trivia! She loves looking after Finny too, as they follow me around at work the first 1/2 hour as the staff prepares for the day. She's constantly saying, "Mommy, Finn is running out of the room" as I try to run copies, get toys ready and chase 2 kids. Today he turned the copy machine off in the middle of a big run and all sorts of coloring sheets jammed. He laughed and I did my best to stifle both a giggle and a grimace!! They get to get all of their wiggles out after school on the playground as we kill some time waiting to get Maisie from Kinder. Finn is a big boy this year, no more baby rooms for him. No more cribs at naptime, it's nap mat all the way. Highchairs? Nah, he's eating in the big kid lunchroom (of course, he doesn't always stay seated, but that's another matter!) I knew he was getting big when he started asking for a juice box in his lunch,,,no baby cups Mom!! He said pumpkin today (gun-in) and I smiled huge! His vocab is exploding!!!!

1st Day of Kinder
Maisie had a wonderful first day of Kindergarten. I took her into the cafeteria, which is where all of the classes meet, and there were people everywhere. She didn't seem to notice and was so excited to see her teacher. She asked me, "I wonder what Miss Burleson will be wearing today, I bet it's pretty." While Ainslie and Finn waited in the van with Uncle Gary, who so graciously chauffeured us to the school, Maisie and I waited for her teacher. She even got a surprise visit from her Uncle David, who works for the District. She had a grin from ear to ear the whole morning. It was finally time for her to go to class and off they marched, single file, down the hallway. I was so happy for her I didn't even cry!! The kids and I met some girlfriends and their kids for coffee and then headed home where Finn took a nap and Ainslie and I read books (ALONE!!) for over an hour!! It was great for both of us to have that one-on-one time. After an Easter Seals appointment, housework and lots more playtime it was time to pick up Maisie.
We waited in line about 25 minutes (in our van) to pick her up. By this time Ainslie had fallen asleep in the van :) I pulled up and low and behold, there was my Kindergartner......sobbing!! I got her in the van and her teacher, Miss Burleson, came to my window and said she had a FABULOUS day, up until 5 minutes earlier when she realized that some kids got to ride the bus home instead of getting picked up by their parents for 'car pickup.' Well, we pulled away and I just let her cry and vent to me that she wasn't 'special' like the bus-riders. I know my daughter well enough to know that 1)she was tired and 2)she doesn't like to miss out on anything (wonder where she got that from?). Within minutes we were home and she was over it and said how thankful she is that she has a mommy that can take her and pick her up from school each day.
We all piled out of the van (Ainslie awake now) and in the house where Finn went down for a late nap. The girls piled in my lap and Maisie spent the next 30 minutes excitedly telling us every detail of her first day. It was PRECIOUS!!! She acted out the class rules and I'm telling you, I laughed so hard. She was 100% happy. She kept telling Ainslie and I how much she missed us and the family all day but that she loves Kindergarten.
All the kids went down for sleep easily tonight as they had all had an exciting and full day. Thank you God for little children and their excitement and wonder...hope we all can appreciate that!

Meet The Teacher
It sure has been awhile since I posted and a lot has gone on over this busy summer. We had those lovely renovations done on our house, took a fun-filled trip to Nashville to celebrate Grandma Thompson's 85th birthday, spent 3 days on the beach in Corpus Christi TX, spent some lazy days at Sea World, celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary, took the girls' for their first swim lessons at the YMCA. Summer is officially over (although someone should let the weather know so it will cool down) and it is back to school time.
Our oldest, Maisie, begins Kindergarten tomorrow morning. We had "Meet The Teacher" last week and we all headed over to Carson Elementary, The Carson Cowboys. (How appropriate, it's Texas!) Her Kinder teacher is Mrs. Burleson and Maisie is very excited to go tomorrow. I attached some pics so you can see the room, her teacher and Maisie's excitement.
I will be sure to post pics tomorrow of the 'big day.' They are having a breakfast for all the first time parents so they can boo-hoo together....I might have to skip that. I want to quietly retreat home and cry there!! Tears of happiness, anxiety, joy, trepidation, yes happiness and pride, and a few nostalgic sniffles......the first of many 'moments' in Maisie's life...and lots more to come for all 3 of them!! (Keep Ainslie in your thoughts too, she will CERTAINLY miss her best friend and playmate!)

Zoo Train
I wanted to post one of the kids' (and mine too) favorite activities: The Zoo Train. It 's a mini-locomotive that runs right next to the Zoo and also goes by The Sunken Gardens and The Witte (where cousin Rachel will have her wedding reception next April). This was Finn's first time REALLY getting into it.
Maisie & Tinkerbell
We celebrated Maisie's 5th birthday yesterday at our house (aren't we crazy, renovations and all). We had an outdoor swim party and it was Texas-hot but there were many opportunites to get wet (just ask Craig who got soaked by our niece, Brandee!!) The theme was Tinkerbell and everything was green and purple. We had lots of food, Tinkerbell cupcakes and lots of fun. We even had a pinata in our living room. It was attached to our exposed ceiling beams which the kids kind of got a kick out of. We're going for the whole new-age, urban loft look :)
Fun was had by all and Maisie thoroughly enjoyed her party!!
